בערב השלישי של פסח, הרביעי באפריל 1969, ביום השנה לרצח ד"ר מרטין לוטר קינג, התכנסו מאות אנשים מקהילות דתיות ואתניות שונות בכנסיה של הקהילה השחורה בלב הבירה האמריקאית – וושינגטון די.סי, כדי לחגוג יחד את "סדר חירות" (Freedom Seder) הראשון. סיפור היציאה מעבדות לחירות והשחרור מעריצתו של פרעה שולב בסיפור המאבק של אמריקה השחורה לחירות, ובמאבקם של עמים לשחרור בכלל.
שנה לפני הסדר, יום לאחר רצח ד"ר קינג, הועלו חלקים מוושינגטון באש על ידי המון זועם של מפגינים שחורים. צבא ארה"ב הטיל עוצר על העיר (שלמעשה הושם רק על שחורים) וכשהגיע מועד פסח שבוע לאחר מכן, הניעו המהומות את הרב ארתור וסקוב, שהיה אז סטודנט ופעיל בתנועה לזכויות האזרח, לחבר את סיפור יציאת מצרים לסיפור עירו העולה בלהבות. Martin Kippenberger, The Problem Perspective

I can't cut off an ear every day…" once said Martin Kippenberger, the mythological bad boy of the art world who lived fast and died young at the age of 44. Both in art and in life, often leaking into each other he was a rude entertainer repeatedly kicking and pulling at the boundaries of artistic good taste and social acceptability. This first retrospective of his work in the United States, which made its initial appearance at MOCA in Los Angeles and currently occupies the MOMA's 6ths floor galleries, sheds some light on a prolific and exuberant career that has gotten relatively little exposure in the Unite States.
